Muscle PrideMUSCLEPRIDE™ About Us
“HOW BIG IS YOUR MUSCLE?"

MusclePride's Mission is to instill pride, celebrate unity and embrace diversity in the Muscle and the GLBT communities. We strive to improve the lives of GLBT individuals by promoting physical fitness, increasing visibility, and by endorsing human and civil rights through networking and celebrations that advocate equality.

The Bear community has one. The Leather community also has one. It is time the Muscle community has one too. What is it? A new Pride flag for the Muscle Community. There are tens of thousands of gay, bisexual and transgender men and women that strive to be physically fit. We work very hard to stay in shape and hope that this new symbol of Gay Pride will promote health and fitness within the community.

The original Gay pride flag was created by Gilbert Baker in 1978. His original design called for an eight-striped flag; however, when he created the flag and took it to the printers, he was told hot pink could not be done.

In 1979 the San Francisco gay community was outraged by the assassination of gay Mayor Harvey Milk. Baker's flag was chosen to show strength and solidarity of the 1979 Pride parade. The indigo stripe was removed so each side of the street would have three colors each. These two important events created the six-striped Gay Pride flag we know today.

We have created a new five-striped Gay Pride flag to represent the Muscle community and show its pride. We added back the pink that was removed from Gilbert Baker's original design thus creating a five-striped Muscle Gay Pride Flag.

This is how we chose to interpret the colors but feel free to interpret them as you choose.

I hope you will join us in displaying this new symbol of Gay Pride.
